Jen is the owner of Artis and coaches all Artis Barbell classes, all Functional Fitness classes, and runs Artis Nutrition. She is CFL1, USAWL1, and a Certified Eleiko Strength Coach. Jen used to run marathons and triathlons before finding CrossFit in 2009, and has since become a competitive weighlifter, competing as a Masters World Team member in 2016. She has a BS in Political Science, is pursuing a graduate degree in Gender and Women's Studies, and her favorite hobby is smashing the patriarchy. Obvs.
Jon Day is the owner of Artis and coaches most Cross-Training classes. He has his CSCS, CFL1, and is a professor in the Health and Kinesiology Department at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has a BS in Exercise Science from UNO, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. He has been involved in sports and fitness for most of his life, and started CrossFit in 2007. Jon's favorite hobbies are napping and coaching youth sports, but mostly napping. Lots of naps.
Nick assists with coaching Cross-Training and Artis Barbell classes. He has been involved with fitness since 2012, with 3+ years of coaching experience. Nick's favorite part of being at Artis is the warmup, which he describes as "let's see how many random/current events topics we can talk about in the hopes that the hour finishes up before we actually have to exercise.” Likes: airports, sour patch kids, yard games, chapstick, the occasional pedicure, HBO Sunday night programming, pizza, golf, and I guess fitness. Dislike: the stretch of road between 51st and 49th and Underwood Ave in Dundee between 5 and 6 pm during the work week. It takes FOREVER.
Bailey assists with coaching Artis Barbell classes and Cross-Training classes. Bailey's desire to coach stems from watching athletes feel empowered by developing their strength and skills. She enjoys seeing people improve their health and overall quality of life through strength and conditioning, and growing their confidence through accomplishments in the gym. She also has a special interest in nutrition for athletes. Bailey started at Artis in 2016, and now trains and competes in the sport of powerlifting. Outside of the gym, she is an accounting & finance professional who enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children, reading, cooking, and escaping to Colorado as often as her schedule allows. Bailey's favorite hobbies are booty shorts and glitter.
Allison coaches our Artis Gymnastics classes. She has been involved in sports and fitness for most of her life - competitive gymnastics, rock climbing and mountain biking, as well as many years practicing yoga. She joined Artis in 2016 and fell in love with the challenge and variety of the workouts, as well as the uplifting and supportive community in the gym.
As a gymnastics coach, Allison really loves challenging people with new skills and helping them improve their flexibility, balance and body awareness. She especially enjoys the reward of teaching someone how to do something they have never tried before and seeing them succeed! Outside of the gym, Allison works as a Mechanical Engineer, and her favorite hobbies are biking with her husband and two daughters, as well as gardening, reading, sewing and spending time outdoors. Her sixth favorite hobby is experimenting with short haircuts.
Angie coaches our Artis Kids classes and is our Community Events Coordinator. She began CrossFit in 2009 and has a background in competitive sports, including softball and running. Angie is the mother of three girls: Grace, who passed away in 2012, Annabelle, 5, and Charlotte, 1. She has extensive experience working with kids and is currently a math teacher at Aspen Creek Middle School in Gretna. As a teacher, she loves working to help instill self-actualization in her students and is excited for the opportunity to have a further reach into the community by doing this in the gym as well. Angie's favorite hobbies are magnets and ghouls.
Kelleigh coaches our Artis Kids classes and serves as our resident apparel guru through Lawlor's Sporting Goods. Since she was a young child, she has always been involved in something active, and has a lifelong love for all things sport. She played college softball and was part of the 2001 Division 2 National Championship team. As a mother of two boys, she understands how important it is to teach your kids how healthy & fun fitness can be. She says she jumped at the opportunity to help coach the kids class at Artis, and that her main goal is to show kids to love fitness in a fun, safe and exciting way. Kelleigh's favorite hobbies are making dope playlists on Spotify and making shirts. So many shirts.
Ryan assists with coaching our Cross-Training classes and Artis Kids classes. She is a middle school math teacher with 11 years experience. In that time, she has had the opportunity to coach basketball, cross-country, and track. She volunteers with the YMCA to coach basketball and t-ball for her two children. She has a huge passion for learning and guiding others in their learning process, which she says is why she jumped at the opportunity to coach at Artis. She says she finds immense joy in helping others be better than they were the day before no matter their goals. Ryan's favorite hobby is watching Hallmark movies. No, seriously. It actually is.
